Hello, I’m Becky Protopsaltis, a qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist and my Private Practice is located at the Harbour Room at Broadstone Counselling.
I am a Qualified Counsellor and Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy which means I work within the boundaries and standards of behaviour set by the BACP’s ethical framework.
I worked in the NHS for 25 years and in that time, I became skilled in actively listening to patients, understanding their stories and helping them to resolve issues that were causing them distress. I realised that I wanted to develop my listening skills further to really learn to help people to explore their worries and concerns, and so decided to retrain as a counsellor in 2013.
What I Do
I offer both short and long-term counselling for both Adults and Young People aged 14 upwards. I specialise in seeing people who are suffering from social and other forms of anxiety, lack of confidence or self-esteem issues. I also offer counselling for trainee counsellors.
I work mainly in a person-centred way, using alternative counselling methods where required. My belief is that individuals are experts on themselves, and that with help and support from me to explore and identify their concerns, people can be supported to make changes to their life and move forward with confidence and contentment.
Where I Work
I am available during the day and evenings.
My Private Practice is based in a calm and welcoming room located at Broadstone Counselling.
Sessions are £50 each and last for 50 minutes. I offer an initial 40-minute assessment session, costing £30. At this initial session we can meet and see how we might work together, while I take some information from you about what has brought you to counselling. We can use this session to identify what you are hoping to achieve and to discuss how we will proceed.
I offer a concessionary rate to trainee counsellors undertaking their 40 hours of personal therapy.
Training, Qualifications & Experience
I have previously worked as a counsellor in a Bournemouth GP surgery and so have experience of working with a large variety of presenting issues. Most recently I have worked as a counsellor at Dorset County Hospital, seeing patients and their relatives who have been affected by cancer.
